The 4 Noble Truth
Friends:
The blessed Buddha once said:
And what is this 1st Noble Truth of Suffering? not getting what one wants is suffering, & getting what one not wants is suffering, in short, the five clusters of clinging are suffering ...!!! ...!!! In whatever being & group of individuality, there is birth, coming into being, emergence, appearance, manifestation of the 5 clusters clusters of clinging, development of the ability to sense, that, bhikkhus, is called birth... And what is ageing? In whatever being & group of individuality, there is ageing, decaying, broken teeth, grey hair, wrinkled skin, shrinking & fading away, weakening of the ability to sense, that, bhikkhus, is called ageing... And what is death? In beings prone to sorrow lamentation, pain, sadness, stress & frustration this childish wish arises: Oh may we not be afflicted And what in brevity, are the five clusters of clusters of clinging?
These are, in short, the five clusters of clusters of clinging, that are suffering. |

Pollution of air - water – food
You will understand this by merely asking yourselves what elements of life you require and imagine their diversity when you experience air and water and their composites and effect on yourselves, which give the human being complete health but which can also result in illness and destruction of the body's organs when, due to human will, contamination of air and water occurs that causes incalculable damage....
And the sinfulness of people already shows itself in the fact that they are not afraid to pollute these particularly important life preserving elements such that it brings about life threatening damage to their fellow human beings.... And just as every human being holds his own life dear he sins when he reduces his fellow human being's most essential necessities of life, when he plays a part in jeopardizing the life of other people....
In addition, `endangering life' also includes when the soil, which produces nourishment for human and animal life, becomes deprived of its natural quality; when, by the use of artificial agents, the designated land for cultivation takes on a different quality, the products of which now also contain substances that are by no means beneficial for the human body.
Human beings are interfering with natural law, what's more, they want to improve, that is, they portray My creations as imperfect, they want to increase the soil's yield and are using the wrong methods for that.... since they need only ask for My blessing to achieve truly blessed harvests as well....
Another sin in this respect is the harvesting of fruit before it has ripened.... when, because of greed and materialistic thought, harvesting takes place in advance of the natural process of ripening and when, as a result, the human body is forced to fight against as yet immature substances.. .. which is not a merely physical but also a spiritual matter which is frequently unknown to you. But all this is integral to the disregard of My law of eternal order.
The human being damages his fellow human, he does not treat him fairly and he contributes towards the steady increase of chaos on earth because only an earthly life lived within lawful order can have the right effect for body and soul.
Every human being has the right to have the order of nature upheld because I made creation for the whole of humanity and not just for one human being. Every person requires clean air, clean water and good food for his physical life and no human being is entitled to cause harm to another that he wouldn't want to be caused to himself.
But during the last period before the end there is no more consideration for the life of other people, all kinds of unscrupulous experiments take place, and always just because of ambition, greed or hunger for power, which endangers all healthy life. Thus he who wants to destroy all living creations to release the constrained spirit within in the mistaken assumption that it will then belong to him again, is triumphant.. .. All people who act in opposition to divine order have handed themselves over to him, they follow his suggestions and ignore My commandments which require love and justice....
Everyone just thinks of himself and his own advantage, and the fate of other people leaves him untouched. The life of his fellow human being is no longer sacred to him, otherwise it couldn't come to what is to be expected with certainty: that the life of all human beings will be gambled with because the divine laws of nature will be overthrown.. .. because one day the elements will forcefully break through.

Definitions & Making Herbal Preparations
Cream:
A mixture of fats and water that blends with the skin to strengthen and smooth it. Use 30 g lanolin, 15 oz beeswax, 100 g. vegetable or fruit oil, and 30 ml herb water. Melt the lanolin and beeswax in a double boiler, gently stirring in the oil. Remove from heat and whisk in the herb water. Keep stirring as it cools. Store in wide mouth jars.
Decoction:
Made by simmering larger pieces of the herb, such as bark, roots, or twigs. Use 30 g. dried or 60 g. fresh herb to 750 ml water; simmer until the water is reduced to 500 ml. Drink 1/2 cup three times a day.
Infused oils:
Hot infusion: 250 g. dried or 500 g. fresh herb to 750 ml Olive or Vegetable Oil. Heat gently in a double boiler for 3 hours. Strain through cheese cloth into dark bottles.--
Cold infusion:
Pack a large jar with the herb. Cover it with cold-pressed oil and put the lid on. Let stand in a sunny window sill for 2-3 weeks. Squeeze the oil through a jelly bag and repeat the process. Store in dark glass bottles.
Infusion:
A tea made by pouring boiled (not actively boiling) water over fresh or dried herbs. Use approximately 30 g. dried or 75 g. fresh herbs to 500 ml water. Drink 1/2 cup three times a day.
Macerate
To make, pour 500ml of cold water over 25g of herb and leave to stand overnight. Then strain and use as you would a decoction.
Massage Oils:
Use 5 drops essential oil to 20 ml carrier oil. Sweet almond, jojoba, avocado or grapeseed make good carrier oils. You can also used infused oils.
Ointment:
A mixture of oils and fats that forms a protective layer over the skin. Melt 500 g. petroleum jelly or soft paraffin wax in a double boiler. Add 60 g. dried herb and simmer gently for 2 hours. Strain through a jelly bag and pour into jars while still hot.
Plaster:
Wrap the chopped or boiled herbs, or a paste made from them, in cheesecloth or muslin before applying to the affected area. This is good for herbs that might irritate the skin, such as mustard.
Poultice:
Boil herbs in a little water for a hot poultice, or bruise or chop slightly for a cold one. Smooth a little oil on the skin to keep the herbs from sticking, apply the herb, and wrap with muslin or gauze strips.
Steam Inhalants:
Place a few tablespoons of the dried herb in a bowl and pour boiling water over them. Drape a towel over your head and breathe in the steam.
Syrup:
An infusion or decoction preserved by adding sugar or honey. Use 500 ml infusion to 500 g sugar or honey; heat gently until the sweetener has dissolved. Store in dark glass bottles with cork tops; screw top bottles may explode if the mixture ferments.
Tincture:
Steep the fresh or dried herb in a 25% mixture of alcohol and water. Do not use methyl, grain, or rubbing alcohol as they are toxic. Vodka is ideal; rum has the added benefit of covering unpleasant flavors. Use 200 g. dried or 600 g. fresh herb to 1 liter alcohol and water. Place in a sealed jar in a cool, dark place for 2 weeks, shaking occasionally. Strain the liquid through cheese cloth and store in a dark glass bottle. Take 5 ml three times a day, diluted in a little fruit juice or water.
Tonic Wine:
Pour 2 liters good quality wine, preferably red, over 500 g. dried herb, making sure all the herb is covered by the wine. Cover and leave for 2 weeks. Strain and take in 1/3 cup doses.
Wash:
A tea or infusion meant only for external use. A mild form of a wash would be 1/4 ounce of herb to one pint of boiling water, steeped until lukewarm, then applied.
Blessings

Aura's
1. Not eating a well-balanced diet.
2. Lack of or no exercise in the daily routine above and beyond the daily regiment of activities.
3. Not enough rest and/or sleep.
4. Stress is a definite factor that can be alleviated through use of meditation, exercise, or leisure activities.
5. The use of drugs and/or alcohol. (This includes prescription medications.)
6. The use of tobacco or anything else in excess.
7. Not enough fresh air.
8. Participation in negative psychic activities that upset or stress the inner person.
To enhance your ability to see auras, you must remember these things.
1. Everyone's aura is unique.
2. The aura of one person will interact with the energies of others, as well as those of other animals and plants.
3. When a person's aura changes, this is a sign of changes within that person's self. It can be physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, or even psychological.
4. The longer a person is around another person, the more their auric fields will exchange energy.
You can see Bird auras .. The sky should be mostly clear .. not too many clouds. Find a bird that is flying slowly or sitting on a telephone line with the sky as the only background. You should stare or gaze at the bird, letting your eyes go a little out of focus. Don’t strain your eyes or try to hard .. you may not be able to see the aura on your first try. When you see the aura for the first time, you may get excited and the aura will disappear. Just relax and try again.
See auras around trees and plants .. Look at the top of a tree with the sky as a background. You should look a little past the tips of the limbs or leaves of the tree/plant. Let your eyes go a little out of focus and just relax while doing this. You will see a cloud [almost glowing] like ~~~~~ that moves in and out from the tree/plant.
You can also see your own aura ... Do not have bright lights on ... or be in total darkness... a soft light from the hallway or a little light from the window is okay. Sit facing a mirror with a light or white background [wall] behind you. Patterns or bright colors are not good because you will have trouble seeing an aura or not be able to see one at all. Relax and look into the mirror at your head and shoulder area.
Let your eyes look beyond yourself in the mirror... not directly at yourself. [you will be looking at the wall behind you]. You will start to see a glowing energy that comes off your head area ...You may not see colors, but a transparent/ white or light color moving in and out near the top of your head or from the sides of your head. This is your aura. You may even see a glowing around other things that may be viewed while looking in the mirror [like a picture on the wall behind you or a bureau and the objects on it]. Everything has an aura or energy field ... your eyes are not playing tricks on you .. just relax and get comfortable with what you are seeing. Again, the excitement you get when this happens, will cause the aura to disappear ... just re-focus and try again .. the aura will return.
How to see your aura coming off your fingertips ... The room should not be too bright ...[example] you could stand in a doorway with the hallway in total darkness, the room you are in should have light. Stand with your hands toward the hallway and your back toward the lighted room]. Take your two hands and have the tips of your fingers [both hands] touch each other .. Place your hands [with fingertips touching] about 8 to 10 inches away from your face. Your eyes should look directly at your fingertips while move your hands slowly away from each other [about 6 inches apart] ... as if in slow motion. You will see a whitish band between your fingertips. It almost looks like rubber bands. Move your fingerstips back to original position [touching] and slowly move back and forth, touching and moving the fingertips [hands] away from each other about 6 inches ...
Other Aura Colors Black: While visiting with friends recently about auras, I was surprised when one jumped to a complete, negative conclusion that black in a person's aura meant 'death'. Yes, black is very confusing of colors in the aura. When I generally see black within ones aura, I know that this individual is shielding him/herself from outside energies. There is nothing wrong with black in the aura unless it is to extreme. And with all colors, being all one color is an indication of being unbalanced. Black can also show that one is hiding something and keeping secrets. Children who are abused usually have a black ring around their aura, while event the adults who haven't come to terms of their abuse will continue to carry that burden of the black ring until they have therapeutically dealt with the past.
Brown:
I've heard some individuals express the brown in an aura is an indication of dirtiness or that one's soul needs cleansing. That is seldom true. Brown can indicate that a person is growing. For example, if there's some brown within the aura around the head area, and with the combination of the rest of the colors in the aura, this can indicate that the person is growing mentally and organizing within one's inner self. As with all colors, brown can indicate a lack of many things. It can indicate lack of energy or balance, and importantly, can show that one has become stagnant within his/her own energy.
Gold:
A brighter than yellow color sometimes within one's aura will indicate that the person has a lot of spiritual energy, and is in tuned with him/herself. The muddier gold coloration can indicate that one hasn't come to terms with the higher inspriational side of him/herself.
Gray:
Gray can indicate intuition and creative imagination. The silvery gray color shows femininity while the darker gray indicates physical imbalance and secretiveness. Male friends of mine who are gay have all had a lot of gray within their auras. My reasoning is that this comes from their innate sexual needs compiled with societies view of the homosexual male, therefore the need for them to keep it a secret shows within their aura.
Orange:
Depending on how clear orange is, one can tell when someone is growing paranormally and/or emotionally. If it becomes unclear, this can show that the person is having a difficult time due to the imbalance and that other emotions are affecting their inner person. When an individual has to much pride, the muddier orange coloration will over-power their aura.
Pink:
Love is shown with the pink color, and generally indicates that someone is being totally honest. When that pink becomes dull though, look out! They're lying! Also pink show the quieter personality of an individual who is artisitic and creative within the arts. Depending on the darkness, pink can so immaturity and new changes within one's love life.
Purple:
This color can indicate that an individual has a tendency of being intuitive. The deeper the purple hue, the more passionate and strong willed the person is. Purple also can reflect intense erotic imagination, and a tendency of being overbearing.
White:
Rarely seen by itself, white reflects truth and purity. Babies tend to have total white auras while those who are at peace with death. I feel this is due to one being honest within one's self, and feeling that the soul is in acceptable fashion to move on to the "Otherplane"

Cleansing Our Emotions
Our commitment to begin releasing emotional blocks begins with a humble recognition that every circumstance that presents itself in our lives offers us the opportunity to remember our divine identity—a divine entity that recognizes that we are all inter-connected— we are all smaller parts of the greater source. Bringing this truth into our consciousness allows us to:· Recognize the gifts in our life's experiences· Display a forgiving heart to all those that touch our lives. Once we have aligned ourselves with our divine truth, we can begin to compassionately go within and release the emotional blocks that have kept us from experiencing spiritual bliss. Spiritual blocks maybe constructed to disguise:
Resentment, anger and feelings of betrayal, Insecurities, feelings of unworthiness and rejection, Fears, Guilt
Unexpressed emotions; lack of honesty, manipulation
Spiritual cleansing requires for us to go deeply within and release any negative emotions we are harboring for others or ourselves. A simple yet powerful exercise that can greatly facilitate this process is that of writing letters. In releasing our hidden emotions by exercising the art of writing, we enforce the creative action of expression. It is not necessary to give your letters to the individuals who have induced negativity in your life in order to savor the glorious power of release working in your life. The simple act of writing, along with your commitment to develop a deeper spiritual awareness is all that necessary!
Along with a continual spiritual commitment and an open heart that is willing to forgive, we must also learn how to practice lovingly detachment. Lovingly detachment does not imply that we should not care for others or offer them a comforting shoulder. Lovingly detachments requires of us to honor the growing process of humanity—recognizing that all circumstances in life offer us the opportunityfor spiritual growth. Lovingly detachment teaches us that we can care and offer comfort without becoming emotionally attached to the natural growth process of life. We offer our unconditional love and support but we do not allow the emotional negativity of others to weigh us down. We recognize with humbleness that in order for us to experience the full spectrum of our divinity, we must stay focused on experiencing life from a positive perspective; unraveling the gifts in our life'scircumstances, no matter what the appearances.
When we learn to live with lovingly detachment, when we learnhow to display an open and forgiving heart and practice an unconditional commit to reveal spirit, our lives are richly transformed to manifest the radiance of all the things we desire.
With love and lights,
free yourself ...free your own blockage...
Survive a Negative Energy Dump
Now I'm not saying that your friend did this on purpose, I'm simply pointing out why you suddenly feel so drained. You are carrying the load of your friend's negative energy, which has been successfully transferred from their shoulders to yours. But don't despair, you are a very good friend indeed for being so empathic and sharing your friend's load, and there is an easy way toget rid of this accumulation of negative energy from your own body. You either do a sweeping of energy from head to toe and or you need to literally jump up and down, stamp your feet and shake your entire body. Then you need to get in the shower and thoroughly wash your hair and cleanse your body with a decent body scrub. Simple, isn't it! So, the next time your friend, or your ex or a co-worker in a bad mood dumps their negative energy all over you, just start shaking and stamping the negative energy away.
This technique is also great for tantrum-prone children. Often a key problem is simply the fact that they are highly sensitive to the energies around them and they have absorbed too much negative energy. It will leave them feeling irritable and cranky. The best thing you can do, is put on some happy up beat music and encourage them to dance and the blues away.
Om shanti,
With love and lights,

Top Six Reasons To Forgive
No one can change the past, but you do have the power to upgrade how you feel about it, and that makes all the difference.
You can take your power back from all those painful memories, and make peace with your past. Forgiveness heals the guilt and the hurt, and does this quietly, privately, and thoroughly. Forgiveness does not mean that you let anyone off the hook, it means that your present happiness is more important than your past suffering.
Forgiveness does not mean that you condone the hurtful things done to you, it means that you reclaim your right to run your own life.
Right now those hurtful things are running your life, and how is that working for you?
The people who hurt you may have ruined your yesterdays, but only you are in charge of your tomorrows.
And if you feel guilt over people that you have hurt, forgiving yourself will heal you and allow you to move forward with a happier attitude and a healthier body.
So here are the top six reasons to forgive.
1 You will feel better and laugh more.
Resolving all that negative spin from your past allows you to enjoy yourself and have the daily fun you really want.
Your buttons will stop being pushed because they will be gone.
You see, guilt and hatred resolve nothing, they just sustain the negativity that continues to stop you from reaching your personal and professional goals.
Forgiveness, on the other hand, undoes the stickiness that binds you to all those unhappy yesterdays, and this returns your personal energy to your present life, and you get more done.
Forgiveness is excellent for improved prosperity and success in every area of your life.
2 You will be healthier.
Carrying negativity appears to cause many physical ills.
The body and the mind are the same thing.
Just as ice and steam are still basically water, your body and your mind are simply different manifestations of your spirit.
Relieve your mental stress and your body will be happier too.
Nothing relieves mental stress like forgiveness. Forgiveness heals.
3 People will like you better.
You will be a more enjoyable person to be around, and will attract more positive people to your life.
Humans are imperfect, and we all make mistakes.
One trait of positive people is that they take life less personally, and readily forgive mistakes as they happen.
On the other hand, perfectionists are often miserable people, having standards way too high to be reached.
Would you settle for mere excellence?
Then do so, and your relations with others will improve immediately. Happy people are all about smiles.
Sure, there are fights worth fighting, but if you live is one long series of fights with other people, the exhaustion must be terrible for you.
Forgive and life improves. It really is that simple.
4 You will stop the constant suffering.
Forgive others exactly because what happened was not your fault.
Ask yourself:
What was done to me?
How long ago did all that happen?
Are those hurtful people still in my life?
Why should I keep suffering for what someone else did?
Since it was not my fault, why am I still paying for it?
Of course you have suffered way too long and way too much already. And those hurtful people have probably been gone from your life for years. So let the suffering stop right now.
Forgive them.
And it may be that complete, one hundred percent may not be possible for you at first, and that is fine.
Not to worry, because you can start with a small percentage of forgiveness and work up.
How about forgiving them ten percent? Twenty? Eighty?
Even five percent forgiveness is an excellent step in the right direction.
The more you forgive, the better you will feel.
5 You have punished yourself long enough.
Self forgiveness stops the overwhelming feelings of guilt that obstruct your happiness.
Ask yourself: What was my crime?
How long ago did that happen?
Am I still doing stuff like tha t?
If I had been imprisoned for it, would I be out by now?
You have likely already punished yourself way too much, and it is time to grant yourself a full pardon. Forgive does not mean forget, it means accepting responsibility, and moving on with our life in positive ways, having learned your lessons.
You can stop spinning over how you used to be and get on with creating the good life you have always deserved.
So forgive yourself.
Today.
Right now.
Since you cannot undo what you did, you must do the next best thing, and that is to face what happened, and then let the blame go.
6 No one needs to know.
Forgiveness happens privately.
You do not need to call anyone up or write any letters.
Forgiveness is an internal healing, and it is all about you.
Other people will have to forgive themselves for what they did.
Your concern is you.
You evolve all the time anyway, so why not evolve for the better?
And here is how do forgiveness.
As you remember past events and the people involved, feel forgiveness flow from your heart out to them and back to yourself.
Visualize what happened and who was there, forgiving everything and everyone involved.
If you are not particularly visual, that is not a problem at all, since you can just sense and feel what happened, and process from there. Sensing and feeling work just as well as visualizing.
If anger arises when you think of some people, then in the privacy of your own thoughts, confront them.
Tell them how you feel about what happened, and spend all of that anger you feel toward
them.
Tell them all the things you would never say to their face, but need to express. And then forgive them.
You may need to feel forgiven by your higher power.
Please know that God/dess forgives you the first time you ask, so only ask once.
If you have to ask twice, then it is you who is not forgiving you.
Forgive yourself fully knowing that God/dess never needs to be asked twice.
"Do not ask Goddess to guide your footsteps if you are not willing to move your feet!"
With Love and Ligths,
To forgive is divine ......

Ginger and barley specifically for cancer and diabetic people
ACancer Killer in the Kitchen - Ginger The powerful healing effects of ginger have been well documented. It's a proven remedy for upset stomach. Reams of studies show that it inhibits inflammation. And there is substantial evidence that it fights cancer too. For instance, a recent University of Michigan study showed that when ginger was added to ovarian cancer cells in the laboratory, it caused the cancer cells to self-destruct (a process known as "apoptosis") . In a separate study at the University of Minnesota , researchers injected colon cancer cells into mice that were bred to have no immune system. Half of these mice were routinely fed gingerol, the main active component in ginger. The researchers found that the mice that were fed gingerol lived longer, their tumors were smaller, and the cancer did not spread as widely as in the control group. With all these health benefits, you should be using ginger as often as you can. The best way I've found to get a healthy serving of ginger is to juice it. (The brand of juicer I use is an Omega.) Two or three days a week, I juice an apple or two, some carrots, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, and a big piece of ginger root. The ginger gives the drink a great flavor and a powerful anti-cancer kick. I highly recommend that you try it. <>~<>~<>~<>~ <>~<>~<>~ <>~<>~<>~ <>~<>~<>~ <>~<> If you have enjoyed this article and know someone who would enjoy it, would you kindly share it with him or her? Healing and cleansing with barley High in fibre, barley is also a kidney cleanser. Better yet, regular intake of it helps prevent heart disease. BARLEY water was always a regular drink when we were still living at home. Whenever we had to go for a medical exam that included a urine test, my mum would make us drink barley water a day before it to make sure we got a positive result! My mother was a wise woman. I later found out from an Australian naturopath that barley is known to be a kidney cleanser, and she happily downed glasses of it at a meal we had in a coffee-shop here. Barley is good for your intestinal health too. Try to eat the barley grains you find in your drink or sweet broth with fu chook (beancurd skin) and ginkgo nuts. It's high in fibre which feeds the friendly bacteria in the colon and helps speed up the transit of fecal matter in it. In this way it helps prevent haemorrhoids and colon cancer. The propionic acid and beta glucan from barley's insoluble fibre also help lower cholesterol and prevent the formation of gallstones. Eating barley regularly is a preventive step against heart disease as, besides the fibre content, it is also high in niacin, a B vitamin good for lowering cholesterol. Diabetics should eat more barley as the fibre will prevent blood sugar levels from rising too high. It also provides relief from constipation or diarrhoea for those suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Barley is rich in selenium which prevents cancer and relieves symptoms of asthma and arthritis. It is a good source of manganese, copper and phosphorous. Malt sugar comes from sprouted barley which, when fermented, is an ingredient in beer and other alcoholic beverages. Barley, whose Latin name is " hordeum vulgare" , has been cultivated for more than 10,000 years. Since ancient times, barley has been used for healing purposes and has been known to the Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Athletes in Greece and Rome in those days were known to eat barley bread to give them strength. Besides the usual things we do with barley, I enjoy having it in a western soup. The larger pearl barley is used and I love the sticky bite of it |

Cancer prevention
Here's some very useful and important information about cancer prevention:
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc. 7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

White Sun
White Sun is a sign from Heaven, signifying the beginning of the End of the Age. One cycle of Heaven and Earth is 129,600 years and it is the coming of the Final Catastrophe.
Goddess of Mercy said,
“Oh! Oh! What a great catastrophe!
The pain inflicted causes wails and moans;
Great floods burst, and the world becomes submerged;
Great fire spread, and the men and women are charred to ashes;
Killer Wind (Gang-feng) descends, and even ghosts and deities wail.”
Taoist Cosmology
Tao cannot be described. A picture tells a thousand words. Likewise God, the creation, life, sufferings as a result of the creation....why, why, why? Only a true and sincere seeker of the Truth will have real wisdom to see the picture. But everyone claims to be able to know and have found the Truth. Only God knows..............
First of all, the seed for your growth was given by your parents, but the seed alone is not sufficient. This seed needs a vast amount of nutrients, which, when recognized by the DNA patterns in the seed, are put together in rather amazingly complex patterns to start building an embreyo. All of these nutrients are provided by the mother, which is in turn provided by the world in which she lives.
Right from the beginning, there is no you. The seed is not you; it was produced by your parents. The nutrients and the biological structures produced from them are not you either; they were provided by the world around you.
Then comes the profoundly complex structure known as the brain. This is nature's masterpiece. As various species evolved over time, nature continously selected only those beings which were more conscious. The conscious is the awareness of life, and everything else the brain learns to divide. Part of this awareness, however, is the awareness of self, referred to in psychology, and of course by Taoists, as the Ego.
Ego and Self, however, are two of the great misunderstandings in psychology and philosophy, even in Taoist philosophy. Ego is not some "thing" that sits in the brain. Ego is nothing more than a concept, that of self-awareness. It's silly to talk about "The Ego," as if it's some person inside your brain. If nothing else, "The Ego" is the thing thinking about "The Ego." The Ego is nothing more than "you" as a separate being, seeing yourself in relation to that which is "not you." It is self-awareness, nothing else.
Nevertheless, this concept is nothing more than a concept. There is nothing in reality like it other than that big lump of flesh we call our conscious brain. Of course, fiction serves its own purposes in other contexts, but fiction is not what I'm exploring in this essay.
Now that we've hit that dead end, it's time to try a different path. Let's start back at the question of "who made who," you know, the one that's usually phrased as, "who created you?" As I pointed out already, the "you" that is thought of here is nothing more than various nutrients pieced together by the instructions encoded biologically in your DNA. So if there's anything that anyone can point to as "you," the closest they could come is that initial seed provided by your parents.
The safest answer to the question, "who created me" is "there is no me to have been created," so the next safest answer would be "my parents." However, we could apply the same argument to them as that given above, and see that they, as seperate entities, don't really exist either, but we already saw where that got us, so let's keep going and say that their parents made them, and their parents made them, etc.
Looks like we've got ourselves trapped in circular logic again! I guess that's why the next safest answer would have to be, "God created us all!" Whew! Off the hook with that one! But no such luck, because the next inevitable question would be, "who created God?" I guess you have to end somewhere. The curiosity as to what spawned the Absolute Starting Point will spoil any answer to the Great Cosmological Question. If you must have an answer, then the starting point is arbitrary.
You'll pull back and back, starting with your biased concept of "self," then looking to your parents, then to their parents, and finally to the universe itself, then to God. You could pull back even further if you're creative enough with your theology. It really doesn't matter where you place the starting point, because you will always wonder what happened Before The Beginning. What came first? The chicken or the egg?
This is a common problem found in logic known as a paradox, or circular logic. You will always find yourself asking your original question. In fact, this is an excellent sign of your logic failing you. However, most people don't ask deep enough questions to get into too hot of water. They're usually satified with the usual overly-processed Answer, and they go on with their lives. In fact, this is what we have to do with everything, because logic, by nature, is finite, and that which logic tries to comprehend is infinite. It is inevitable that your logic will break down, and in fact it always happens in the form of a paradox.
Taoism teaches that nature itself is cyclical: there is no starting point, and no ending point. It's just like a circle. This is what creates the paradox in logic: you can answer question after question until you find yourself back to your original question. That's because you've gone around the circle and found yourself back to the beginning.
But logic thrives on linearality. Everything must have a starting point and a distinct ending point. There must be a this, and there must be a distinct that. Since nature is circular instead of linear, there is the illusion that you're going in a strait line with your logic because on an infinitesimal level (which is our relative size to the universe we're conceptualizing), a circle looks like a strait line. But then we find ourselves where we started and we say, "that doesn't make sense!"
This inevitable conclusion to every logical question is what Taoist writing thrives on. If you read the Tao Te Ching or Chuang Tzu for the first time, I'm sure you'll exclaim, "that doesn't make any sense!" But that is their whole point of writing it! How else can a Taoist describe the universe? We already know that it's futile. We'll just find ourselves back where we started. So instead of going in a strait line, we go in circles.
Of course it won't make sense to the conscious brain, because the entire reason for Taoist writing is to transcend the conscious brain and go deeper. You see, the conscious brain is only a recent (and in fact relatively unsophisticated) development in evolution. There is a whole other, highly unexplored, part of the biology that developed right from the beginning, just by the very nature of its inseparability from the universe around it. It is by this that beings operated before the development of the conscious brain, and it is this which Taoists are trying to tap into.
The conscious brain is excellent for adapting to environments and surviving in general, but it's awful at understanding things as a totality. By its very nature, its job is to not understand things as a totality, but to divide it up and analyze as separate parts. It's like trying to see a star through a microscope. The microscope is intended to analyze on a very tiny level, whereas the star is very far away and very massive in size. The microscope wasn't designed to observe stars, and it would be silly to use it in this way. That's why we have telescopes. Similarly, the conscious brain wasn't designed to observe the Whole, but there is something else that was.
So what is this "thing" that is used to observe the whole? It would probably seem more like "feeling" than "thinking." Some refer to it as intuition, or more mystically, "the third eye." Psychologists call it the unconscious brain. But it is not something bizarre and supernatural. It is something very natural indeed, and something very old in age, the oldest in fact. It is the very seat of creativity.
Taoists purposely say things that are paradoxical and downright confusing, but it only seems that way when you're analyzing the words with logic. If you understand the words at a deeper level, that of your intuition, or whatever else you might want to call it, it can be very profound. Entire philosophies of life can be derived from just a few single words. But insist on analyzing, and it will seem like nonsense.
When a superior man hears of the Tao, he immediately begins to embody it. When an average man hears of the Tao, he half believes it, half doubts it. When a foolish man hears of the Tao, he laughs out loud. If he didn't laugh, it wouldn't be the Tao. Thus it is said: The path into the light seems dark, the path forward seems to go back, the direct path seems long, true power seems weak, true purity seems tarnished, true steadfastness seems changeable, true clarity seems obscure, the greatest person seems unsophisticated, the greatest love seems indifferent, the greatest wisdom seems childish. The Tao is nowhere to be found. Yet it nourishes and completes all things.
Now think of this circle which your logic will take you in. You have what you call a starting point for the universe, and you move along the circle until you find the ending point. You begin wondering what happened Before the Beginning and what will happen After the End. Is there just void? That's what the universe is anyway, relative to what we call "matter" which is contained in it. Explore the question long enough, and your logic goes in circles.
Taoism starts with a very basic premise, which I already mentioned: that of cyclical growth. Nothing in the universe goes in a straight line, but in circles. If you nail down a starting point, you have trouble finding the ending point. Likewise, if you nail down an ending point, you have trouble finding the starting point. That is the Way the universe works. So what created the universe? What existed before the universe existed? The only thing that could possibly exist is the Way itself.
Think about it. How do you build a house without knowing the Way to Build a House? You could argue, "but the Way doesn't build the house! The carpenter builds it!" Thus if you were to build a house, you would see it as your creation, just as many see the universe as God's creation. But we've already gone through that argument! There is no you, separate and distinct. You already know the universe created you, and we also know the troubles of seeking who created the universe.
The only possibility for the Ultimate Creator is the only thing that could exist before the Creator, which could spawn the Creation of the Creator. The only thing that exists in and of itself, without reliance on anything else, is the Way itself. In other words, there is no starting point on the circle. The starting point is the entire circle itself. This Way, or Circle, or Creator of the Creator, is given a special name in Taoism: the Tao, which is really nothing more than the Chinese word for "the Way."
There was something formless and perfect before the universe was born. It is serene. Empty. Solitary. Unchanging. Infinite. Eternally present. It is the mother of the universe. For lack of a better name, I call it the Tao. It flows through all things, inside and outside, and returns to the origin of all things. The Tao is great. The universe is great. Earth is great. Man is great. These are the four great powers. Man follows the earth. Earth follows the universe. The universe follows the Tao. The Tao follows only itself.
That is the goal of Taoism: to tap into the infinite Way. To do so, you needn't have a teacher, nor read certain books, nor sit in meditation for hours, although these help only if they clarify The Real You: the Way that is infinite. But my point is that you don't need "something else." Everything you need is given to you, you just need to learn how to use it. That is the only purpose that teachers, books, or meditation can serve.
The Master keeps her mind always at one with the Tao; that is what gives her her radiance. The Tao is ungraspable. How can her mind be at one with it? Because she doesn't cling to ideas. The Tao is dark and unfathomable. How can it make her radiant? Because she lets it. Since before time and space were, the Tao is. It is beyond is and is not. How do I know this is true? I look inside myself and see.
How can this be? Because you are The Way. You are not just that body that nature assembled and gave a brain with which it can divide itself and everything that it is deluded enough to think is separate. This is nothing more than a concept. From the perspective of that concept, that body is indeed limited in its power, simply because to see itself as separate it requires limitation. Without limitation, there is no separation.
But once you feel yourself one with the Tao: no separate you, no separate Tao, then you will have unlimited power. Of course, you already have unlimited power, you just don't use it because you're too busy concentrating on your limitations. Just because you have a delusion of separateness and limitation doesn't mean you really are separate and limited.
One thing the delusion can do is cause you to behave as if you were. You are the ugly duckling who is only ugly as a duckling. Seeing yourself as a duckling makes you see yourself as ugly. Seeing yourself as the swan that you truly are makes you see yourself as beautiful. Likewise, seeing yourself as separate makes you limited, but seeing yourself as infinite makes you unlimited.
The Tao is infinite, eternal. Why is it eternal? It was never born; thus it can never die. Why is it infinite? It has no desires for itself; thus it is present for all beings. The Master stays behind; that is why she is ahead. She is detached from all things; that is why she is one with them. Because she has let go of herself, she is perfectly fulfilled. Tao Te Ching - Chapter 7
GODDESS OF MERCY – (“KUAN YIN” IN CHINESE)
19th of the Second Lunar Month Her Birthday
19th of the Sixth Lunar Month The day she acquired Tao
19th of the Ninth Lunar Month The day she returned to Heaven Attainment of Tao
The goddess, Kuan Yin is claimed as a patron deity by both the Taoists and the Buddhists and her image is to be found in most temples in Asia. She is worshipped by women seeking offspring, seafarers, farmers, travelers and merchants. In fact, the name "Kuan Yin" shows the universality of her influence as it means, "One Who Sees and Hears the Cry from the Human World."
The Chinese legend concerning Kuan Yin tells the story of the king of a small country, located in southwestern China, around 300 B.C., who had three daughters, Kuan Yin being the youngest. As Kuan Yin, whose mortal name was Miau Chan, grew up and showed extraordinary talent in studying the mystery of the universe and exhibited a great compassion for all sentient beings.
Her father planned to marry her off to some distinguished man in the hope of their son becoming the future king. Miau Chan absolutely refused to be married and, at length, received her father's permission to enter the Nunnery of the White Sparrow in Lungshu Hsien.
Although having given his permission, he was none too pleased with the idea of his daughter becoming a nun. Therefore, he commanded that she be given the most difficult and degrading tasks to do. Miau Chan's determination to pursue the religious life, instead of being weakened by these tasks, became even stronger.
In his anger and frustration, ordered that she be executed. When the executioner struck Miau Chan with his sword, the sword broke into a thousand pieces. Seeing this, her father ordered her to be strangled, thus succeeding in her murder. Reaching hell, her soul not only did not suffer the anguish of the netherworld, but rather, because of her goodness, changed hell into paradise.
Yama (the king of hell), not wishing his realm to be destroyed, immediately sent her back to life and had her transported on a lotus flower, to the island of P'ootoo, near Ningpo. Here Miau Chan lived for nine years perfecting her cultivation, healing disease and saving mariners from shipwreck. It was during this time that her father was stricken by a mortal illness which could only be cured by the two hands and eyes of the "Never Angry One."
Miau Chan, on hearing this, allowed her hands to be cut off and her eyes gouged out. Reduced to an ointment, these parts immediately produced a cure. The king, discovering that he owed his life to his daughter, long thought to be dead, left his kingdom to his chief minister and adopted Buddhism. Sacrifices to Kuan Yin consist only of fruit and vegetables as it would be blasphemy to offer her meat or wine.
If you are at a temple when she is being worshipped, you will hear her devotees solemnly and lovingly chanting her name, over and over again. She is said to be able to protect people from danger and to grant children to those who pray to her. It is as a patron of love, conception and children that she is most well-known. To see how important these qualities are to the Chinese let us look at the "Sutra on the Great Love of Parents."
At this time the Buddha preached the law as follows: “All ye good men and good women; acknowledge your debt for your father's compassion; acknowledge your debt for your mother's mercy. For the life of a human being in this world, has karma as its basic cause, but parents as its immediate means of origin.
Without a father, the child is not born. Without a mother, the child is not nourished. The spirit comes from the father's seed; the body grows within the mother's womb. Because of these relationships, the concern of a mother for her child is without comparison in this world.
From the time when she receives the child in her womb, during the passage of nine months, going, coming, sitting, sleeping, she is visited by suffering. She ceases to have her customary love for food or drink or clothing and worries solely about a safe delivery. The months are full, and the days sufficient. At the time of birth, the winds of karma hasten it on, her bones are racked with pain. When the child is born and dropped upon the grass, the boundless joy of the father and mother match that of a woman who has found the omnipotent magic jewel. When the child utters its first sounds, the mother feels that she herself is born anew. Her chest becomes the child's place of rest; her knees, its playground, her breasts, its source of food; her love his very life. Without his mother, the child cannot dress or undress. Though the mother hungers, she takes the food from her own mouth and gives it to her child. Without the mother, the child cannot be nourished ...."
Images usually portray Kuan Yin seated on a lotus, holding a vase. The vase symbolizes harmony and Kuan Yin's hands are said to contain the Dew of Compassion. Stories tell of her appearing at the bedside of the seriously ill and sprinkling a few drops of this nectar on their heads. This has always resulted in a miraculous cure.
The lotus has been used by the Chinese as an emblem of summer and fruitfulness for centuries. With the advent of Buddhism, it took on the additional symbolism of purity because it grows out of the mud but is not soiled by it. The petals of the flower are seen as the spokes of the wheel of continued existence to which all unenlightened beings are bound until they reach the stage of awakening and pass into Nirvana.
Kuan Yin's birthday is celebrated without the continual explosions of firecrackers that accompany the birthdays of the other gods. This is due to the fact that Kuan Yin is so pure that it is unnecessary to ward off evil spirits, as none would dare to approach her
THE GREAT TAO
Tao being the essence, is the core of all virtues. God is the spiritual energy of Tao. In terms of the lord of all phenomena in the cosmos, the essence is called God. The Truth is the manifestation of Tao and conscience is the manifestation of the True Self.
Originally Tao is nameless. Since it is a void, it is everywhere and it is nowhere. The cosmos is like a giant wheel, days follow months, winter follows summer, birth is followed by growth, old age and death. Human cannot live without Tao. Tao is the True Self of a human. Once the True self is covered by emotions and desires, one becomes lost and is attracted by illusory images, hence forever trapped in the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
Nowadays, science and technology dominate the society. Mankind becomes corrupted and morality has deteriorated. Catastrophes strike everywhere. The ultimate goal of Tien-Tao is turned the world into a Pure Land. ‘Tien Tao’ means Tao of Heaven.
1) What is the true meaning of Tao?
In the beginning, the cosmos was a void without any form or substance. However in this state, there existed an indescribable energy. Without beginning or end, it is ever changing and continuously self-rejuvenating. This energy created billions of galaxies, stars and solar systems.
Tao endows Heaven and Earth, the Truth and Order. Tao not only manifests the state of life, it also unveils the principle, order and characteristic of life. Tao is the centre of all thoughts, feeling and emotion and controls all bodily existence. Everyone has Tao within oneself, yet does not know its existence. Tao is the origin of mankind. One who searches and discovers Tao becomes a Saint. One who does not know Tao becomes lost and risks the annihilation of his soul. Thus, one who acts benevolently based on faith will perfect benevolence in his conscience; one who makes judgement based on faith will perfect his wisdom.
Lao-Tze defined Tao as follows :-
"Great Tao has no form nor substance, yet it creates and cultivates Heaven and Earth, Great Tao has no favours, thus it governs the law and order of the cosmos. Great Tao has no name, but it gives life to and nourishes all beings. Because it is so mystical and powerful, there really is no proper word to represent it."
